Take Action

Becoming a catalyst for change takes action.  All big changes start with small steps.  If we stand together to effectuate change for our profession and for our patients, there will be no stopping nurses.

Voter

Vote

The single most important thing nurses can do to change the profession is to vote.  There are over 4 million nurses in the US.  That is significant voting power. Know the candidates you are voting for.  Know the candidates that support the nursing profession.  Ballotpedia is an excellent resource that allows you to research any candidate, past or present, that you are interested in.  It explains their positions, their committee assignments, bills they have sponsored, and how they have voted on all bills.  If you need to register to vote, start the process here.

End Nurse Abuse

Nurses are 16X more at risk of abuse in the workplace than police and firefighters.  We must take action to stop abuse against nurses.  Know the facts regarding abuse towards nurses and all healthcare professionals. Use this link to educate yourself and your coworkers regarding violence against healthcare workers.  Then, take the pledge to #endnurseabuse.  Text PLEDGE to 52886 and pledge to be an advocate for the nursing profession.

Join Professional Organizations

There are numerous benefits of joining professional organizations.  Organizations, such as American Nurses Association, provides nurses with professional identity,  disseminates the most current evidence-based research, and provides opportunities for action and advocacy.  Additionally, membership to the American Nurses Association also provides membership to your state's nurses association.  Click here for more information on the benefits.
