There are two main types of committees in the US House of Representatives, standing committees and select committees. Standing committees are ongoing committees.  Select committees are temporary committees that are designed to address current pressing governmental issues.  Members of the house are assigned to serve on the committees by the majority and minority leaders.  Fewer bills that are introduced in the House of Representatives are assigned to committees, unlike the Senate.  However, when healthcare bills are assigned to committees, they are assigned to a variety of committees.  The standing committees include:
